Paul Whitmell

Paul trained in accountancy, law and economics from an early age and obtained a degree in these subjects at Cardiff University. He then went onto train with Dearden Farrow (Now BDO) based in Fleet Street, London and qualified as an Associate Chartered Accountant in 1982.

Paul had several roles in Industry before becoming a partner in a small accountancy practice.

In 1993 Paul was invited to become a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.

In April 2004 Paul set up PWA to provide a more proactive service to the ever increasing client base and was pleased to be joined by both Sharon and Karen in this new venture.

Since then the business has grown enormously.

Paul forms many new companies each year offering each practical advice and support to help them get going. Now days there are many fines for late filing of company set up forms and Paul specialises in helping people avoid these fines as well as offering set up advice on matters such as VAT, Corporation Tax and company structure and shareholding.

In recent years Paul has gained experience in company valuations, buying and selling companies and helping people achieve exit plans which are both tax efficient as well as allowing the business to continue into the future. Paul also can help if you are seeking investor finance to develop and grow your business.

Paul is company secretary for many small and large companies and has considerable skills in advising on all Company Law matters.

Paul specialises in Corporation Tax, Income Tax and Capital Gains Tax and has in depth knowledge and experience of working via an offshore company especially a company based in the Channel Islands.

Outside of work Paul is chairman of Sawston Youth Group which offers activities to young people aged 8yrs to 18yrs in South Cambridgeshire. Presently the youth group has 80 members led by 20 volunteer leaders so this takes up most of Paul’s spare time. Paul also teaches some musical instruments as part of the Sawston Youth Group Marching Band and is a qualified British Canoe Union Level 2 coach. This enables Paul to teach and test people for various canoeing and kayaking awards. Paul also helps young people with the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and is a qualified Assessor for all levels including Wild Country Expeditions and expeditions on water. Paul is very proud to have helped many young people obtain the Gold Award which they have received at one of the Royal Palaces.

Paul would love to meet you if you are thinking of starting a business, need to develop your business in a tax efficient way or if you wish to plan an exit strategy.

Initial meeting are always free of charge, we always quote our ongoing fees in writing and we can provide you with references of happy clients who you can telephone and chat to, so please ring PWA and we will do our best to help.
