Coronavirus support: scammers pose as HMRC
From discussions with clients it would appear that many have received bogus emails from scammers posing as HMRC in connection to the government support that is available to businesses affected by Coronavirus.
HMRC does not text individuals and they only use emails in a very limited set of circumstances (normally only when communicating with professional advisers).
If you receive such an email, or you know someone who has, this is not genuine, it is a scam and should be disregarded.
You can view examples of scam emails on HMRC’s website.
HMRC website also includes details of how to report bogus emails, texts, calls etc. to HMRC.
If you receive an unsolicited call from someone claiming to be from HMRC please do not disclose any information to them. These are almost certainly scam calls.
